๐Ÿ Toronto & the World Cup โ€” did you know?

This is the first time Canada has ever hosted FIFA World Cup matches โ€” and Toronto is one of just two Canadian host cities, alongside Vancouver.

Toronto will host six matches: five in the group stage and one in the knockout round (Round of 32).

Canada's opening match is on 12 June 2026 at BMO Field, the day after the tournament kicks off in Mexico City.

BMO Field, known as 'Toronto Stadium' during the tournament for sponsorship-free branding, was expanded to about 45,736 seats for the World Cup.

The stadium opened in 2007 and is the home of Toronto FC (MLS) and the Toronto Argonauts โ€” it sits in Exhibition Place on the shore of Lake Ontario.

Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities on earth, where over half of residents were born outside Canada โ€” so nearly every qualified nation has a local fan community.

๐ŸšŠ Getting to BMO Field โ€” transit guide

BMO Field is in Exhibition Place on Toronto's waterfront. Match-day parking is very limited, so public transit is by far the best way in.

GO Transit (regional rail)

Exhibition GO station sits right beside the stadium. Trains on the Lakeshore West line connect from Union Station downtown in minutes, and from cities like Hamilton, Oakville and Burlington.

TTC streetcars

The 509 Harbourfront and 511 Bathurst streetcars both terminate at Exhibition Loop, steps from BMO Field. They connect to Union Station and Bathurst subway station.

Subway + walk

Take Line 1 (Yongeโ€“University) or Line 2 (Bloorโ€“Danforth) to Bathurst or Union, then a streetcar or a 15โ€“20 minute walk through Liberty Village to the ground.

Bike & walk

The Martin Goodman waterfront trail runs past Exhibition Place, with Bike Share Toronto docks nearby. Driving and parking near the stadium are very limited on match days โ€” transit is strongly recommended.

๐ŸŽ‰ FIFA Fan Festival & live sites

Toronto is planning an official FIFA Fan Festival โ€” a free public zone with giant screens, live music, food and family activities throughout the tournament, even on days without a Toronto match. The city has hosted huge viewing crowds at Nathan Phillips Square and along the waterfront for past tournaments.

The official Fan Festival location, hours and entry details will be confirmed by the City of Toronto and FIFA closer to June 2026. We'll update this page with the venue and schedule as soon as they're announced. Expect lively watch-party scenes across Little Italy (College Street), Greektown (the Danforth) and King West too.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Where to eat near the stadium

Toronto is one of the world's great food cities. These districts โ€” from a five-minute walk to a short streetcar ride from BMO Field โ€” cover everything from pre-match pints to a celebration dinner.

๐Ÿ“ Liberty Village

The closest neighbourhood to BMO Field โ€” a dense walk of breweries, patios, pizza, brunch spots and sports bars, perfect before kickoff.

๐Ÿ“ King West

Toronto's buzziest dining-and-nightlife strip, packed with upscale restaurants, rooftop bars and late-night spots a short streetcar ride away.

๐Ÿ“ Queen West & Ossington

Trendy, independent restaurants spanning global cuisines โ€” one of the city's best areas for a memorable dinner.

๐Ÿ“ St. Lawrence Market

A historic food market (try a peameal bacon sandwich, a Toronto classic) plus the cobblestoned Distillery District nearby.

๐Ÿ“ Chinatown & Kensington Market

Iconic, budget-friendly eats โ€” dumplings, pho, tacos and global street food in one of the city's most colourful corners.

๐Ÿ“ Little Italy & Greektown

Two of Toronto's great football-watching districts, where fans pour onto the patios of College Street and the Danforth during big tournaments.

๐Ÿงณ Fan guide & tips

Weather

Mid-June to mid-July in Toronto is warm summer โ€” typically 20โ€“28ยฐC (68โ€“82ยฐF), occasionally humid. Pack light layers, sunscreen and a rain jacket for the odd thunderstorm.

Where to stay

Downtown, the Entertainment District and Liberty Village put you closest to BMO Field and transit. Book early โ€” World Cup demand will be high across the city.

Beyond the match

Climb the CN Tower, catch the Toronto Islands ferry for a skyline view, explore the ROM or the waterfront โ€” and Niagara Falls is a 1.5โ€“2 hour day trip from the city.

Practical tips

Canada uses the Canadian dollar; tap-to-pay is accepted almost everywhere. The TTC and GO accept contactless cards. Tipping ~15โ€“20% is customary at restaurants.
