The 2026 FIFA World Cup officially begins June 11 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, where a star-studded opening ceremony featuring J Balvin, Maná, Belinda, and Tyla will precede Mexico's group-stage clash against South Africa. Themed around the traditional Mexican craft of "papel picado," the show is the first of three separate host-nation ceremonies — Canada's follows in Toronto on June 12, and the United States hosts its own spectacular at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on the same day. It marks the first time in World Cup history that each co-host stages an independent opening event.
