Nintendo to Phase In Replaceable-Battery Switch 2 Hardware, Retire Original Switch in Europe

Nintendo of Europe announced it will phase in revised Switch 2 hardware with user-replaceable batteries beginning this summer, starting with Joy-Con controllers before the console itself follows in autumn. The change is driven by incoming EU battery regulations taking effect in February 2027, and functionality stays unchanged. Alongside the rollout, Nintendo will stop supplying the original Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED to European retailers from mid-February 2027.
