Colorado Governor Signs Sweeping Sports Betting Consumer Protection Law

Colorado Governor Jared Polis has signed Senate Bill 26-131 into law, introducing some of the strictest sports-betting consumer protections in the country. Once the rules take effect on August 12, operators will be barred from sending promotional push notifications, taking credit-card deposits, or using "no sweat" bonus-bet marketing language, and bettors will be capped at six deposits per sportsbook each day. The bill passed with bipartisan support despite pushback from FanDuel and DraftKings, which warned the restrictions could push bettors toward unregulated markets.
